Microneedling: Everything You Need to Know
Microneedling is one of the most effective ways to address multiple skin concerns. Microneedling is safe for all skin types and jump-starts new collagen without chemicals or heat, making it a great option for nearly everyone. Before any treatment, we want you to feel informed and empowered with as much knowledge as possible. See our highlights about SkinPen Microneedling below!
So, what is microneedling?
Microneedling creates millions of controlled micro punctures in the skin, stimulating the skin’s natural wound healing process. In addition to tissue remodeling, this treatment produces more collagen and elastin. With the jump start of collagen and elastin production, microneedling also encourages the release of growth factors that repair skin cells. These healing processes continue for several months after treatment.
What is microneedling good for?
Out of all the skincare treatments out there, microneedling is multi-faceted and offers lots of skin benefits! In addition to improvement in overall skin tone and texture, microneedling is good for several skin concerns:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Acne scars and surgical scars
Enlarged pores
Neck wrinkles or “tech neck”
Skin laxity and dullness
Melasma
Hyperpigmentation
Is microneedling safe?
Yes! SkinPen microneedling is minimally invasive and safe for all Fitzpatrick Skin Types I – VI. SkinPen has a patented and sterile single-use needle cartridge and a BioSheath to prevent cross-contamination between procedures.
Is microneedling painful?
No! Microneedling is not painful. Before treatment, your skin is gently cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied to keep you comfortable.
How many treatments do I need?
3-6 microneedling sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results. Depending on the patient’s specific skin care concerns and goals, an individualized plan will be created.
For overall skin health and anti-aging maintenance, treatment once a season (4 treatments yearly) is recommended for best results.
Is there downtime?
Yes, after treatment your skin may be pink to red, similar to a mild sunburn. This is normal and should subside within 24-72 hours after treatment. You will leave the clinic with a post-procedure kit and instructions to ensure your skin heals properly! We have a BioCellulose Masque available for purchase to quickly soothe and calm the skin (a patient favorite)!
Are all microneedling devices created equal?
Not necessarily! That’s why we use SkinPen at The Skin Room. SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device in the world. Not only is the SkinPen device FDA-cleared, but so is the entire protocol. SkinPen microneedling has been clinically proven safe and effective in addressing several skin concerns.
